Hi,

I either need people who are interested in investing - or just advice on where and how to find investors... I don't seem to be having much luck with this. Anything anyone can throw out there to give me a clue would very much be appreciated!

I am presently working for a very prominent executive producer out here in los angeles who is looking for private, individual investors to invest in his current production. The project has been green lighted and is being fast tracked by the studio with the majority of the funding coming from the studio. He just needs to raise the development capital - which is only a small percentage of the funding since the bulk has already been taken care of. He is just selling off a small percentage to individual, private investors to retain more control over the project. touch with a lawyer, lender and managing agent (as required) and try
and make the purchase and renting out of the property as easy as
possible.

Vegas is the fastest growing US city with 7,000 people a month moving
there, and as it is surrounded by federally owned land that can't be
developed, prices should go on rising quickly for the medium to long
term.

Should we proceed to invest we can expect to receive 70% profit on our proposed minimum $2m investment in July 2009. The only condition is that the apartments hold their value over the build period which should be a given. If the apartments go up in value 30% as expected we could opt to buy some of them and the profits could be much higher as we would be buying at a discount from the original value.

I’ve been in the IT field for what seems like forever. I’ve done both sides from hacker teen to security pro. I’m not a coder but have an idea for a way to stop illegal PtoP, child porn and movie/music downloading at the ISP level without interfering with legit bit torrent or legit PtoP.

Since the music industry is rabid about stopping the illegal download of music and movies I know this would work, but is it possible to find a VC that is willing to fund the development of a project like this without a working model already. Dev time would be less the one year and the system would be expanded to also include the more traditional Spam/Content and ant virus features in the future.

I'm primarily looking for the actual prices that sites like myspace, google, facebook, and pretty much any high volume, well targeted sites get paid for each advertisement they provide. Any insight on how these advertising accounts are structured (i.e. do they pay a yearly price for guaranteed exposure to a percentage their traffic? do they pay per ad for a pre determined number of ads?) And also, how much do they pay for each time people click on their ads and get redirected?

I am currently looking for a position with an Angel or a VC/PE firm because I enjoy helping people realize their dreams as well as building something tangible.

I am an experienced professional and my degree is in accounting. I have not worked for an investment bank or a consulting firm but I have investment banking experience. I do not have an MBA but I have street smarts as well as practical business experience both in the US and in Asia. I have advised senior management of domestic and international companies and government agencies. And I have worked with financial institutions and quasi governmental agencies on behalf of clients to raise capital.

To summarize my professional history – I worked in the US as a tax accountant for 3 plus years. After that I went to Asia where I worked in Japan and Vietnam for over 9 years of which 4 ½ of those years I worked for PwC’s corporate finance and investment banking group.

I know in order to find a job in this industry I need to network and since I have been out of the country for the past 10 years, I do not have much of a network to work with. Therefore, I need to build one and I need to be strategic about it. I am currently looking into some networking events, seminars, and conferences as a well to network. Any suggestions as to which events would be the most beneficial would be helpful.

I have also looked into the Kauffman Fellows program as a way to network and gain some experience but the program deadline has already past. I will still follow-up with them anyway and see what happens.

In addition, in my attempt to find a job, I have also tried to use recruiters (e.g. Glocap, Pinnacle Group, etc.) but no avail and very little support.

I have even thought about getting my MBA and/or CFA as a possible long-term solution but I would prefer to do this once I have secured employment.

Some people have even mention that I should go work for an investment bank or work for a firm that covers P/E funds as a stepping stone to get my foot in the door – it makes sense but they have assumed that getting a job with one of these firms is going to be easier. As I am finding out, it is not.

So at this point, I am at my wits ends and I would REALLY appreciate any tangible suggestions/advice as to possible mentoring program, internships, non-degree educational programs, self-study programs, referrals, networking events and/or firms that I should be speaking with internationally or within the US. I would also appreciate any suggestions as to alternative career paths if someone out there feels that a firm could use someone of my talents.

I would like to open this up to anyone who has an opinion.

There are so many things we can do to change our clothing to make ourselves in ease. There are number of ideas I have got that can change the world view on clothing we wear. The following ideas are as follows

1.change in size and width of a jacket ,coat . we got a change in size of hand bags from small to long and vice versa so if we sow our coat /jacket same way we change the size of the coats /jackets from smaller to longer and vice versa depending on the weather. Same thing can be done on the width from chest to waist . To make both functions which change of width and change of length in a jacket or a coat extra piece of cloth in the front side (chest to waist) needs to be added to achieve change of width function in the jacket/coat. below pic shows how to achieve them

2. We spent so much many on deodorant and perfume but why at such age where everything is made small and people are achieving by attaching compact computers /mobile phones/media gadgets on the clothing but why can’t we achieve small tubes at points of clothing where most of the smell comes from. These points are armpits/elbows/ back of knees and genitals . These places smells because they get moist first and bacteria starts to develop to cause bad smell. The following pics describes better

3. People are carrying so many documents ,things in there rough sacks and in there sports bags at their back ,on there side and most people are wearing jackets rather than rain coats , with big pockets . So why can’t both be made into one. If use tough and groove cloth around the jacket part of a design and the belt of the bag so it can attach or detach and also have option of place the back in front for security .

4. We manage to find materials to keep ourselves warm or cold but sometimes on the extreme weather they seems to fail us. The reason its failing is because no attention is focus on the points the weather is affecting the body which is the collar ,the cuffs, front buttons or zip and the ends of the trousers. If tiny fan heaters (which is used in very small laptops) are placed on these points then keeping warm and cool wont be difficult. These fans can be operated by solar panels or rechargeable batteries or even wind up rechargeable batteries. At the moment a Japanese company are making shirts and jacket but the drawback is its at the back which is not optimum.

5. With modern technology developing fast everyone is keeping communication / pocket pc with them which also means loads of thefts as well. To tackle these problems technology like wireless blue tooth/headphones should be sown in the collars, virtual reality glass should be sown on the hoods to visualize the pocket pc . It is not difficult to sow few wires in the jacket so that these devices can be connected and operated, on top of that voice recognition can be added just to control these devices

6. Humans have tackled so many ways to overcome problem of movement like folded bikes, mini scooters, skates etc but one way or the other none of them are perfect . To over this problem look at the following diagram and again should be operated by rechargeable batteries.

7. Modern suits ;in this day and there should be a coat that can convert into a rain coat. if a two materials is sown one be regular and other rain coat material is sown inverted. Both materials comes at the back of the middle which is zip up so when it rains open the zip and the rain goes around and covers the suit and hood come out from back.

The red line shows how the rain coat opens up and cover to protect the suit

What fuel will be powering vehicles in the future? With the proliferation of hybrid cars and instability in the Middle East, alternative fuels are certainly a hot topic.

Suggestions range from Hydrogen to Ethanol to biodiesel and biofuel to solar, wind, and much more. Vinod Khosla (a VC and co-founder of Sun) is extremely interested in investing in Ethanol, which is gasoline substitute and can be produced from corn.

Check out his Google TechTalk, Biofuels: Think outside the Barrel (video link). Not everyone agrees.

Any thoughts on this? Altervatives? What will be powering our cars in the next 10 years?

Looking for IT provider and trying to test the market

Greetings to all.

This time I am back with more specific questions.

1. What are the best ways to develop a professional-looking site with a complete e-commerce solution? I am looking for website that would allow me and my affiliates to post, update and sell certain written documents generated by practitioners in various fields via PDF downloads. The site would be professionally-looking, user friendly and would include full e-commerce features such as shopping basket, feedback area, multi-user access, reports into QuickBooks or other financial software, etc. I am also looking for SEO solutions that would help raking of the site.

So far, I have been able to find two types of providers. First type includes development companies that charge $120 + and claim that it would take 100-150 hours or more to do the work. This gets me close to $20K which is outside of our budget. Some of the companies also offer pre-packaged e-commerce solution that would have to be customized for 50-100 hours at $120 per hour rate. (ex. http://www.in-commerce.net/e-commerce_solution.html). I am concerned about quality of such prepackaged software as provider’s inability to make the site look unique.

Second type of providers includes provider whose bid I received from Elance.com. Usually, such providers are offering significantly lower rates. Most of them are located outside of the US and I am concerned about quality control and about our ability to communicate and oversee the project. Do you have any suggestions on how to find a reliable provider that would be interested in long-term professional relationship at reasonable rates (relative to rates mentioned above)? Do you think it is feasible to find an IT equity partner who would be willing to take X% of the equity in exchange for upfront development, optimization, follow-up and future changes to the site?

2. I am struggling to figure out how to test the market. Our idea consists of selling documents generated by independent practitioners in various fields via PDF downloads. Our challenge is to be able to test the market to understand potential demand for such products. Since users of such documents would be individuals, as supposed to companies, the way to test our assumptions would be to connect to potential users and to ask whether or not they would be willing to invest $10-$30 in purchasing the content that the site will be selling. The problem is that I neither know how to connect with these individuals nor how many potential buyers are out there. I am in the process of building a model that starts with US population drills down to our target market by excluding non-internet users, people who do not buy publications online, etc. This model (if our assumptions are sound) would merely allow me size up the market but will not show me if anyone whether or not anyone would buy our product. Suggestions?

I write these comic strips based on my life experiences that I have gained as child growing up in Grants Pass Oregon.

This rural town in southern Oregon is a quirky little town, laden with corruption and the good old boys network. I have created the characters based on some of the people I have met while growing up in Southern Oregon. One of the characters is based on my Dad you will see him in the local comic

More about Grants Pass Oregon, If their was ever a town that was backwards in the world that was Grants Pass, This quiet little nested town is home of the caveman, I guess they call them selves the caveman because Grants Pass is close to the Oregon Caves national monument.

Locojo comic strip is one of the comic strips based on growing up here in Grants Pass Oregon, I based Locojo on the city counsel here in Grants Pass Oregon.

In my first Locojo comic strip I show Locojo loading children into a cannon and shooting them into a wall, mean while he is saying don't worry kids this will make you smarter, that is where I coined the terms Locojo will make you smarter.

Locojo runs for city counsel blatantly telling everyone he has no plans doesn't want to help the situation with water, and says not to worry.

Added new character to the comic strip Fatcat Phill one of Locojo's friends.

In the comic strip I show him eating fried chicken on his chest while sitting in his chair by the counsel table with loads of money and back door bills that where passed.

The third character you see is the mayor his name will come out later.

About the Banshencockin city counsel, they are basically a do nothing bunch for the average Joe, but if you show them money and ask them to jump they scream how high and how far. Written by Steven Roach

The Trillon Dollar Matrix

I've been spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about Navi's, Bessemer Venture Partners Entrepreneur-in-Residence and one of the people working on Songbird, Trillion Dollar Web 2.0 Matrix.

It basically is a matrix that lines up content with scope, if you can fill the hole with a service you should have a billion dollar company. Of course there is a huge difference between knowing the niche and being able to fill it.
